Princess Diana’s dress sold at auction for more than $1.1 million

Diana first wore a black and blue evening dress by designer Jacques Azagury in 1985 in Florence. She was also photographed wearing them a year later while visiting Vancouver, the auction house said. The dress consists of a long black velvet bodice embroidered with blue stars and a double-breasted blue organza skirt decorated with a sash and bow.

The dress, along with a matching illustration, sold for more than $1.1 million, Julien’s Auctions said Sunday, estimating it would fetch between $100,000 and $200,000.

„Julien’s now holds a new world record for the most expensive dress worn by Princess Diana sold at auction,“ the auction house said in a statement, adding that the previous auction record was $604,800. Diana’s purple gown by designer Victor Edelstein sold for that amount in January.

The dress was sold as part of a four-day Hollywood Legends auction, organized by Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM), which featured a range of memorabilia.
